Are we eating too little fiber?
Fiber is essential for a healthy diet. But most Germans consume too little of it. The fillers are found in many foods.
The average person eats 17 to 21 grams of fiber a day. That’s not enough fiber – the German Nutrition Society (DGE), for example, recommends an amount of around 30 grams.
Dietary fiber is an indispensable building block for food, it gets the digestion going, it can lower the cholesterol level, and it will keep you full for a long time.
Good sources are always fresh fruit and vegetables. Whole grains, pulses and nuts are also important sources of fiber .
